Door 13: Brad the badger

AdventMysteryCal
Brad is a sweet fellow, who is actually related to Felix. Did you know that?

It’s best to try and work on Brad during the daytime, or with really good lighting because you will be using black yarn, combined with the 2mm hook this might be a little tricky in low light conditions.

Today you will need light grey and black, as well as a tiny bit of dark grey yarn.

Don’t forget your 2mm hook, fibrefill, a tapestry needle and scissors, and, if you battle finding the end of the round, a stitch marker. If you don’t have a stitch marker you can use a paper clip or safety-pin instead.

All the CAL tutorials  are written in US terminology, if you need to convert to UK terminology please look at my Stitch Index.

Today’s abbreviations are:
ch – chain
dec – decrease
inc – increase
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
st(s) – stitch(es)

It is advisable to read the directions before starting, just so you have an overview of what’s happening.

Use of the second colour (light grey) is signified in bold.

To embroider the eyes cut a length of dark grey yarn. Double knot one end and thread onto your needle. Insert the needle on the belly side and use your crochet hook to push the knot into the body. Move the needle to the head and exit in front of one of the ears. Embroider an eye across the stitch before the ear and repeat for the second eye and carefully weave the end in on the belly.

To create the accent on the ears thread a length of light grey yarn onto your needle. Double knot the other end and insert through the bottom of the head, using a crochet hook to push the knot to the inside if need be. Exit the needle on the outside of one of the ears and whip stitch around the loops formed by the stitches to create light grey rim. You will need to whip stitch around each loop a few times to cover all the black. Once done pull the ears into shape.

There you go, Brad the badger is ready to join his friends.
Please share him on Instagram with #adventmysterycal2015 so that I can see your creation.

I’ll see you tomorrow to reveal what’s behind Door 14.
