Door 15: Paul the pine tree

AdventMysteryCal
You can’t have a woodland with just one pine tree, right?
So here’s Paul, he’s Peter’s taller cousin.

Today you will need dark green and dark brown yarn.

Don’t forget your 2mm hook, fibrefill, a tapestry needle and scissors, and, if you battle finding the end of the round, a stitch marker. If you don’t have a stitch marker you can use a paper clip or safety-pin instead.

All the CAL tutorials  are written in US terminology, if you need to convert to UK terminology please look at my Stitch Index.

Today’s abbreviations are:
ch – chain
dec – decrease
hdc – half double crochet
inc – increase
sc – single crochet
slst – slip stitch
st(s) – stitch(es)

It is advisable to read the directions before starting, just so you have an overview of what’s happening.

Begin by making a magic ring with dark green yarn.
Round 1
5 sc into the magic ring, slst round closed, pull ring closed (5 sts).
Round 2
1 sc in each st around (5 sts).
Round 3
(Ch 3, slst in each back bump starting at second bump from hook, 1 sc in next st) x 5 (5 sts and 5 branches).
Round 4
Hdc-inc, 1 hdc in the next four sts (6 sts).
Round 5
(Ch 5, slst in each back bump starting at second bump from hook, 1 sc in next st) x 6 (6 sts and 6 branches).
Round 6
Hdc-inc, 1 hdc in the next five sts (7 sts).
Round 7
(Ch 7, slst in each back bump starting at second bump from hook, 1 sc in next st) x 7 (7 sts and 7 branches).
Round 8
Hdc-inc, 1 hdc in the next six sts (8 sts).
Round 9
(Ch 8, slst in each back bump starting at second bump from hook, 1 sc in next st) x 8 (8 sts and 8 branches).
Round 10
Hdc-inc, 1 hdc in the next seven sts (9 sts).
Round 11
[1 sc in the next two sts, (4ch, slst in each back bump starting at second bump from hook)] x 3, 1 sc in the next three sts, (4ch, slst in each back bump starting at second bump from hook) (8 sts and 4 branches).
Round 12
1 sc in each st around (9 sts).
At this point you want to stuff the tree quite firmly.
Use the back of your crochet hook, or a pencil to pack the stuffing in tightly.
Change to dark brown.
Round 13
1 sc in each st around (9 sts).
Round 14
1 sc in each st around (9 sts).
Round 15
1 sc in each st around (9 sts).
Round 16
1 sc in each st around (9 sts).
Round 17
Dec x 4 (8 sts).Cut the yarn with a length to weave in the end.
Close the bottom off so that it is flat, not using the amigurumi closing method.

Well done!
Paul is ready to join Peter and everyone else.
Please share him on Instagram with #adventmysterycal2015 so that I can see your creation.

I’ll see you again tomorrow for Door 16.
