Door 16: Bert the bear

AdventMysteryCal

Bert is a very chilled out bear and cute as a button, don’t you think?

16BAdventAmigurumi_BerttheBear

Today you will need dark brown and a tiny bit of black yarn.

Don’t forget your 2mm hook, fibrefill, a tapestry needle and scissors, and, if you battle finding the end of the round, a stitch marker. If you don’t have a stitch marker you can use a paper clip or safety-pin instead.

All the CAL tutorials  are written in US terminology, if you need to convert to UK terminology please look at my Stitch Index.

Today’s abbreviations are:
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
dec – decrease
inc – increase
sc – single crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)

It is advisable to read the directions before starting, just so you have an overview of what’s happening.

To attach the legs to the body begin with the back legs.
Thread a one of the yarn tails onto your needle and attach the yarn to the side of the body so that the dc-inc sts face to the outside. Use whip stitches to sew the leg to the body. Weave the yarn end into the foot and shape the foot by sewing the top and bottom together, being careful to hide the stitches under the ‘v’s of the stitches.
Repeat withe the other back leg, as well as the front legs (dc sts facing out), leaving two rounds of stitches between the bakc and front legs.

For the face
Cut a length of black yarn, double knot one end and thread the other onto your needle. Insert the needle into the underside of the head and pull the knot so it is on the inside (you may need to use your crochet hook to push it in).
Exit the needle through the magic ring and embroider a ‘v’ for the nose. Move the needle further back and embroider an eye in front of each ear and across the stitch.

To embroider the claws cut a length of black yarn, knot one end and thread the other onto your needle.Insert the needle into one of the legs and pull the knot so it is on the inside (you may need to use your crochet hook to push it in). Exit the needle through the magic ring and embroider three claws always reinserting the needle into the magic ring.
Repeat for each foot.

And there you have it! Bert is complete!
